Lisa Shimel is a partner with the firm and has more than 30 years of experience in transactions and litigation in commercial, real estate, and lending matters. Her practice areas include banking, lending, and financial institutions, real estate, business operations and transactions, bankruptcy and creditor’s rights, and litigation. Ms. Shimel’s practice focuses on representation of bank and non-bank financial institutions including: Loan documentation for commercial and real estate lending transactions Loan defaults, including note enforcement litigation, workouts, short sales, real and personal property foreclosures; deeds in lieu of foreclosure, and receiverships Secured creditor bankruptcy representation Operational advice and litigation arising out of operational matters Treasury management product review and negotiations She also represents individuals and businesses in real estate purchase and sale transactions, lending transactions, commercial and residential leasing, stock and asset sales and purchases, and general business and real estate litigation. Her experience in dealing with the ramifications of transactions that could have been better structured has greatly strengthened her ability to put together transactions that will stand up to both expected and unexpected challenges. She has a critical understanding of issues and concepts that are truly important to the parties and the situation. Her clients often express that Ms. Shimel is able to explain complex legal matters in a straightforward matter that provides clear guidance to make optimal business decisions and she is a trusted resource in the substantive law in her areas of practice. Ms. Shimel was named to The Best Lawyers in America© 2021 for her work in Real Estate Law. Ms. Shimel has lectured extensively to banking and legal professionals in the areas of secured transactions, financial privacy, real estate, title insurance, and bankruptcy. A Colorado native, Ms. Shimel is a graduate of the University of Denver College of Law. She also received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Denver with dual majors in Political Science and Speech Communication.
