    About Elyse

    Elyse K. Culberson is an associate in the Detroit, Michigan, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Her practice focuses exclusively on representing employers in workplace law matters, including preventative advice and counseling and litigation, including complex litigation and class actions. Elyse defends employers in single and multi-plaintiff lawsuits brought under various state and federal employment laws, including the ADA, ADEA, FLSA, FMLA, Title VII, Michigan’s equivalent statutes and common laws, and state-specific statutes such as Michigan’s Whistleblowers’ Protection Act. Elyse litigates these matters in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate level as well as in arbitration. She has attained summary judgment on behalf of clients and has served as first and second chair in jury and bench trials. In addition to her litigation practice, Elyse defends employers before administrative and government agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Michigan Department of Civil Rights, and U.S. Department of Justice. She also counsels and advises clients on employee handbooks and policies, as well as discipline and discharge matters. Passionate about diversity and the advancement of women in the legal profession, Elyse is an active member of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) and serves on the executive board of the Women’s Bar Association, the Oakland County, Michigan region of WLAM. She also participates in several WLAM committees, including the WLAM Leadership Class Committee, which works with area law schools to develop future female leaders in the legal profession. During law school, Elyse received awards for her performance in Employee Rights and Counseling and Negotiations. In addition to her studies, Elyse was an executive director of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Moot Court Board of Advocates, a member of Law Review, and participated in the Criminal Trial Clinic, where she represented indigent defendants in various criminal matters.
