A steaming takeout container of vegetable curry over white rice sits on a wooden table next to a smartphone showing a generic food delivery checkout screen. A brown paper takeout bag, a stainless steel fork and spoon on cream napkins, and a folded legal notice marked "NOTICE TO APPEAR" complete the overhead flat lay composition.
A reminder to review your past delivery orders and check whether you qualify for an open class action settlement.

If you ordered food for delivery to a California address through Grubhub or Seamless between January 24, 2019, and January 12, 2026, you are eligible to claim a $10 site credit from a $5 million class action settlement. The deadline to file your claim is May 12, 2026 — and unlike most consumer settlements, Grubhub's records will confirm your eligibility automatically once you submit the form.

The lawsuit, Wang et al. v. Grubhub Inc., alleged that Grubhub misrepresented delivery fees, service fees, and menu prices on its food delivery platform — practices that plaintiffs claimed violated California's Unfair Competition Law. Grubhub denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle. The court granted preliminary approval on January 12, 2026, and the final approval hearing is scheduled for April 29, 2026.

Who Qualifies for the Grubhub Settlement

You are a class member if you ordered and paid for food through the Grubhub or Seamless app or website for delivery to an address in California at any point between January 24, 2019, and January 12, 2026 — a window of nearly seven years. Seamless is owned by Grubhub and is fully covered by this settlement.

The settlement applies only to delivery orders. Pickup orders are not covered. If you placed even one qualifying delivery order during the class period and paid for it through the Grubhub or Seamless platform, you likely qualify. There is no minimum order value or frequency requirement.

If you lived in another state during the class period and used Grubhub there, you are not covered by this settlement — it is California-only.

    What You Can Receive

Each class member who files a valid claim will receive a $10 Grubhub site credit, redeemable for future orders on the Grubhub app or website. Grubhub will not charge sales tax on the credit amount.

The total payout is capped at $5 million. If the value of credits issued to all class members would exceed $5 million, the value of each individual credit may be reduced pro rata. In other words, if more than 500,000 valid claims are filed, your $10 credit could be smaller. Filing early does not increase your share — all valid claimants are treated equally — but filing on time ensures you remain eligible.

Why This Settlement Exists: California's Unfair Competition Law

The lawsuit was brought under California's Unfair Competition Law (UCL), Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 17200. The UCL is one of the broadest consumer protection statutes in the United States. It prohibits any "unlawful, unfair or fraudulent business act or practice" and any "unfair, deceptive, untrue or misleading advertising." A practice can violate the UCL even without intent to deceive — the test is whether members of the public are likely to be misled.

The complaint in Wang v. Grubhub alleged that the delivery service displayed delivery fees, service fees, and menu prices in a misleading way that did not give consumers an accurate picture of total cost at the time of order. The plaintiffs argued these practices effectively inflated what California customers paid above what was disclosed.

Grubhub denies these allegations and is not admitting fault by settling. Under California law, a UCL settlement does not establish liability — it resolves the case to avoid the cost and uncertainty of further litigation.

    How to File Your Claim

The official settlement website is GHDeliveryFeeSettlement.com. Most class members received a notice email from the settlement administrator with a unique ID needed to log in and submit a claim.

If you did not receive a notice or have lost your unique ID, you can contact the settlement administrator in writing to request one. Contact information: Grubhub Delivery Fee Settlement, P.O. Box 2349, Portland, OR 97208-2349, or by phone at 1-877-522-2081.

There is no PDF claim form available for download. Claims must be filed online. Class members who cannot file online should contact the administrator for further instructions before the May 12, 2026, deadline.

    What to Expect After Filing

Once you submit a valid claim form, the settlement administrator will review it and confirm or deny eligibility. If your claim is approved and the court grants final approval at the April 29, 2026, hearing, you will receive an email with instructions on how to accept and redeem your $10 Grubhub site credit. The credit can be applied to a future order through the Grubhub or Seamless app or website.

Payments will be issued approximately 60 days after the final approval order is entered or 60 days after any appeals are resolved — whichever is later. Appeals can extend the timeline significantly, sometimes by a year or more.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much will I receive from the Grubhub settlement?

Each valid claim entitles you to a $10 Grubhub site credit usable on future orders through Grubhub or Seamless. The amount may be reduced pro rata if total claims would exceed the $5 million fund.

Do I need to provide proof that I ordered from Grubhub?

No. You do not need to upload receipts. Grubhub's internal records will be used to verify eligibility. You only need to submit your unique ID — provided in your notice email — and basic personal information.

I used Seamless, not Grubhub. Am I eligible?

Yes. Seamless is owned by Grubhub and is fully covered by the settlement. Orders placed through Seamless during the class period count the same as orders placed through Grubhub.

I ordered for pickup, not delivery. Do I qualify?

No. The settlement covers only delivery orders. Pickup orders, even if placed through the Grubhub or Seamless platform during the class period, are not eligible.

I lived in California for part of the class period and another state for part. What now?

You qualify for any orders placed for delivery to a California address. If your delivery addresses were outside California, those orders do not count, but a single qualifying delivery to a California address during the class period makes you a class member.

Can I get cash instead of a Grubhub credit?

No. The settlement provides a $10 site credit only — there is no cash option. If you no longer use Grubhub or Seamless, you can still claim and redeem the credit, but it must be used on the platform.

What if I don't have my unique ID from the notice email?

You can contact the settlement administrator in writing to request a unique ID. Send a written request to Grubhub Delivery Fee Settlement, P.O. Box 2349, Portland, OR 97208-2349, or call 1-877-522-2081. You should request the ID well before the May 12, 2026, deadline to allow time for processing.

What if I miss the May 12 deadline?

If you miss the deadline, you cannot file a claim or receive a settlement credit. You also cannot sue Grubhub separately for the same alleged conduct, because class members who do not opt out are bound by the settlement and release their individual claims.

Does this affect my Grubhub account?

No. Filing a claim does not affect your existing Grubhub or Seamless account. The site credit will be issued to the email address associated with your account.

Where can I get more information?

The official settlement website is GHDeliveryFeeSettlement.com. The settlement administrator can be reached at 1-877-522-2081 or by mail at P.O. Box 2349, Portland, OR 97208-2349.
