Ryan provides sophisticated estate planning to closely-held business owners as well as high net worth individuals and family offices by implementing tax-efficient intergenerational wealth transfer strategies, which include the use of split-interest trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, sales to intentionally defective grantor trusts, limited liability companies and family limited partnerships.Ryan counsels trustees and personal representatives in the administration of substantial trusts and probate estates. In this capacity, Ryan assists with the timely and accurate preparation of accountings and other probate court filings. Additionally, Ryan’s estate settlement practice has comprised drafting non-judicial settlement agreements and representing fiduciaries in contested probate court matters. As a complement to Ryan’s estate planning and estate administration practice, he is well experienced in preparing gift and estate tax returns as well as fiduciary income tax returns. Ryan has represented guardians of incapacitated individuals in proceedings before the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court.
