An experienced trial and appellate attorney, Reid Phillips represents companies and their owners in complex business disputes, including defense of class action lawsuits, malpractice claims, and serious personal injury and death claims. Reid represents businesses and business owners before federal and state courts in lawsuits involving contracts, securities, antitrust, unfair competition, copyright and trademark infringement, and non-compete agreements. His recent experience includes the successful defense of shareholder, customer and employee class action lawsuits in retail, banking, insurance, and manufacturing businesses. Reid has been the managing partner of Brooks Pierce since 2016. Recent Results Won defense verdict in state court insurance coverage lawsuit following nine-day jury trial. Won $4 million summary judgment in federal court for seller of corporate assets in dispute over earn-out provision in sales contract. Won federal court dismissal of patent licensing dispute on forum non conveniens grounds. Successfully argued before the North Carolina Court of Appeals to affirm $2.7 million jury verdict in dispute between business owners. Successfully defended bank in class action brought by customers claiming excessive NSF charges.
