About Matthew

Matt Mellin has concentrated on employee benefit law throughout his career. He has practiced in both the law firm environment and as a staff attorney for one of the world's largest employee benefits consulting firms. Matt's experience covers the full range of employee benefit plans, including pension and profit sharing plans, multiemployer benefit plans, ESOPs and stock purchase plans, 401(k) and tax sheltered annuity arrangements. He advises employers on compliance with Health Care Reform (the Affordable Care Act) and the many other rules affecting health insurance benefits, including cafeteria plans, health and dependent care spending plans, and health savings accounts. He also works extensively on Section 409A compliance for non-qualified deferred compensation programs. Matt is a past Chairman of the Employee Benefits Subcommittee of the Maryland State Bar Association's Section of Taxation, and has served on the Maryland State Personnel Article Review Committee which recodified Maryland's personnel laws, including its various pension and retirement systems.
