Jay Lechner is founder of Lechner Law in Tampa, Florida. He previously was a partner of Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Lechner Law has been recognized by US News & World Report as a 2021-23 "Best Law Firm" in Tampa for Employment Law (Mgmt T2), Labor Law (Mgmt T2) & Litigation - Labor & Employment (T3).Mr. Lechner is a Florida Bar board certified labor and employment lawyer with over 23 years of experience representing employers and select individuals in all aspects of employment law matters, specializing in employment litigation, including class actions, wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, wage and hour violations, retaliation and whistleblower claims, as well as restrictive covenants, unfair business practices, related state tort and contract issues and other types of employment litigation. In addition to his litigation practice, he assists employers in complying with federal and state employment laws, as well as in implementing preventive measures to avoid litigation, including the formulation of personnel policies and procedures. Before attending law school, Mr. Lechner spent several years in management and served as a volunteer firefighter. Mr. Lechner was recognized as "Lawyer of the Year" in 2018 and 2020 for Employment Law - Management in Saint Petersburg, Florida. He was a member of the Executive Council of the Florida Bar Labor & Employment Section, where he was selected as "Volunteer of the Year" in 2017. He is former Chair of the Florida Bar Journal/News editorial board and a Chapter Editor of the Fair Labor Standards Act treatise published annually by Bloomberg Law. From 2021 to 2022, he was an Adjunct Professor at USF's MCOB School of Information Systems & Management, teaching Employment Law. Mr. Lechner is admitted to practice in Florida's Middle, Southern and Northern Districts, as well as the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and all Florida state courts. He received his B.A. from the University of Florida and his J.D. with honors from the University of Florida's Levin College of Law.
