About Ashley

Ashley Shoemaker Walter received her law degree from Belmont University College of Law where her academic and extracurricular pursuits reflected her desire for justice, which enabled her to become a capable and zealous advocate. During her time at Belmont, she served as the Managing Editor for the Belmont Law Review and the Treasurer for the Belmont Legal Aid Society in addition to working as a research assistant in the areas of Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, and Employment Law. Ashley’s strong record of academic achievement is evidenced by an award in immigration law and her participation in Belmont’s Domestic Violence Practicum, where she represented victims of domestic violence in Davidson County. Prior to joining HMC Civil Rights, Ashley interned at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee, the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office, and the International Justice Mission. Before Belmont, Ashley graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Psychology and a minor in French. Growing up in a military family, Ashley has lived in several places but calls Middle Tennessee home. When she is not assisting clients, she can usually be found in the great outdoors, hiking with her dog. Ashley’s other downtime activities include reading and traveling.
