About Stephen

Stephen M. Fatum is a partner in the Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg. He concentrates his practice in the Healthcare Department. Stephen's focus has been on legal and strategic matters affecting physicians, physician organizations and not-for-profit corporations. Stephen routinely negotiates employment agreements, stock transfer agreements, operating agreements and affiliation agreements. He also defends physicians subject to disciplinary proceedings.Stephen is the former general counsel of Advocate Medical Group, S.C., a multi-specialty medical group of 270 physicians practicing primarily in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Before holding this position, he served as general counsel of the Lutheran General Medical Group, S.C., the tax-exempt predecessor organization of Advocate Medical Group. He acted as assistant general counsel of Lutheran General HealthSystem. He is an adjunct faculty member of Loyola University School of Law where he teaches a course about legal and business issues affecting physicians.
