About Matthew

Matthew advises energy companies and mineral producers on environmental and natural resource matters including permitting, regulatory compliance, due diligence, and litigation. He represents clients in environmental litigation in federal and state court as well as before the Montana Board of Environmental Review. Matthew has developed particular expertise in litigating cases under the Montana Water Quality Act, Metal Mine Reclamation Act, Clean Water Act, and in environmental tort cases. Matthew has also guided clients permit major hard rock mining projects and largescale renewable energy projects. As a former environmental engineer, he is able to dialogue with experts and regulators on highly technical subjects, and clients benefit from his scientific background in permitting projects and litigating complex environmental cases. In addition to his natural resource and environmental practice, Matthew represents clients before the Montana Public Service Commission and Montana Water Court. Prior to entering private practice, Matthew clerked for the Honorable Justices Jim Rice and Laurie McKinnon of the Montana Supreme Court.
