Has served as lead counsel in high-stakes cases at both the trial and appellate levels. Julian Ellis represents a diverse group of sophisticated clients in commercial, political and public law matters. He has served as lead counsel in a variety of high-stakes cases at both the trial and appellate levels. At the appellate level, Julian advises on a range of issues and is counsel of record in appeals before federal and state courts across the country, including the Tenth Circuit, Colorado Supreme Court and Colorado Court of Appeals. Julian also has a robust amicus practice and regularly files amicus briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court and federal circuit courts. At the trial level, Julian prosecuted a breach-of-contract action through trial on behalf of a Colorado company, securing the enforcement of an unsigned agreement and an award of full damages and attorney’s fees and costs. He also defended a multimillion-dollar arbitration in Florida that resulted in zero liability for his client. Julian has gained valuable experience as a second chair, including prosecuting an oil and gas arbitration, resulting in a multimillion-dollar award that was 15 times more than the last settlement offer. Julian has also served as lead strategist and brief writer in complex motions practice. He was instrumental in developing class-opposition strategy to defeat class certification in a case involving a national insurer’s handling of medical payments claims and a products case that presented complex Dukes and Comcast issues.
